The Freedom Charter
What is the problem with The Freedom Charter?
Who are the people?
The ANC proclaim that they follow the Freedom Charter. From their website...
“Our demands are stated in the Freedom Charter. We fight for freedom _ the right of Africans to rule Africa.
We fight to control all the land of South Africa. We fight to control the wealth of our country. We fight to control our own destiny. Hence our slogan: POWER TO THE PEOPLE!
Mobilise and prepare! Mayihlome! Let your courage rise with your anger! Freedom not serfdom! Maatla ke a rona! Afrika mayibuye! Amandla ngawethu! (“Power is for us! Africa must come back! Power for us!) POWER TO THE PEOPLE!”
“In the 1980s, people took the liberation struggle to new heights. In the workplace, in the community and in the schools, the people aimed to take control of their situation. All areas of life became areas of political struggle. These strugglers were linked to the demand for political power.”
EWN- “We must name and shame those individuals who undermine the people’s confidence. The ANC is incorruptible as an organisation because the ANC is the people of South Africa.”
Ramaphosa.org.za – “Members of the ANC must be like the amavolontiya of the past – servants and organizers of the people, outstanding cadres able to explain our policies and programmes to the people.”
“The ANC cannot take for granted the support of the people – we must earn their confidence and win their support through exemplary work.”
“The ANC must continue to live among the people, and our branches and local leaders must attend to day-to- day issues that affect them.”
“We have to work hard to ensure that the ANC connects with and remains attractive to the people, even in the face of hostile opinion from detractors”
Firstly, we are not racists and we do not discriminate against any race at all. The law states as follows:
"black people"
is a generic term which means Africans, Coloureds and Indians—
(a) who are citizens of the Republic of South Africa by birth or descent; or
(b) who became citizens of the Republic of South Africa by naturalization—
[Definition amended by section 1(b) of Act No. 46 of 2013]
Question? Are “whites” not actually “Africans” according to this definition? Are they not citizens by birth or descent?
"broad-based black economic empowerment"
means the viable economic empowerment of all black people, in particular women, workers, youth, people with disabilities and people living in rural areas, through diverse but integrated socio-economic strategies that include, but are not limited to—
(a) increasing the number of black people that manage, own and control enterprises and productive assets;
(b) facilitating ownership and management of enterprises and productive assets by communities, workers, co-operatives and other collective enterprises;
(c) human resource and skills development;
(d) achieving equitable representation in all occupational categories and levels in the workforce;
(e) preferential procurement from enterprises that are owned or managed by black people; and
(f) investment in enterprises that are owned or managed by black people;
[Definition amended by section 1(c) of Act No. 46 of 2013]
What is the definition of Democracy?
"the belief in freedom and equality between people, or a system of government based on this belief, in which power is either held by elected representatives or directly by the people themselves"
The ideal democracy is where all the People of South Africa are represented equally. The opposite of a democracy is an autocracy. A democracy is a government chosen by its citizens. An individual without the input of the country's citizens governs an autocracy. Autocratic rulers make economic, social and political decisions without consent from the citizens. An autocratic government has unlimited power over its country. Terms such as "tyrant," "despot" and "dictator" are often heard when referring to an autocratic government. Several monarchies, with power given to the monarchs based on heredity, ruled based on autocratic principles until their countries formed constitutions, resulting in diminished autocratic power.
What is the definition of Tyranny:
'It is a government ruled by a ruler or small group of people who have unlimited power over the people in their country or state and use it unfairly and cruelly."
Sounds familiar? South African governments were always autocracies. The previous government divided races. The current government does exactly the same. Has anything changed? The answer is a definite NO!! The only difference is that the role players have changed.
What is the definition Apartheid:
"It is any system or practice that separates people according to colour, ethnicity, caste, etc."
